Seed Starting Marathon
Hey!
A couple of weeks ago we were under snow and now as I’m writing this, we are currently at 80 degrees and under a tornado watch. Southeast Louisiana weather is crazy y’all!!! We’re supposed to get some big storms later this afternoon and into the night (oh yay) and I am not a fan of when the ugly storms happen at night, because you can’t see shit!
Anyway, back to the garden…..
Everything is pretty much brown, but I did notice blooms on my Japanese Maple today!
I’ve planted a few things here and there and have been trying to clean up, but we’re supposed to dip back down into the low 30’s this coming Sunday, so I’ve gotta be patient. It’s probably a good thing though, as I had a shitload of broccoli to harvest and blanch. It’s currently waiting for me to vacuum pack it for the freezer, which I’m hoping to get to tomorrow.
I’ve also been busy starting seeds under my grow lights because girlfriend purchased a million seeds because she/me has BIG Butchart Garden dreams AND a BIG veggie garden to boot. Someone once said to me, “Well, aren’t you ambitious!” and not in a nice way. Whatever, because yeah lady(!), who I don’t even know, I AM!!!
Anyway, aren’t many of us gardeners guilty of this?? The Dream of having the perfect garden. Ummm, yes please.
In the meantime, I’ve got little seed starters everywhere and I’m staying up late to repot and replant and I can’t find my kitchen table at the moment. Oh, and I still haven’t started Mardi Gras costumes yet. This time of year is always cray-cray!!!
These little cuties are from seeds that actually came from Butchart Gardens. My daughter, Amber and her family, visited last year and they brought me back a few seed packets. These particular ones are orange and yellow Celosia. I just repotted them last night and due to weather, I couldn’t start the hardening off process today, so they sit on my kitchen table. I have more to repot tonight. Do I know where I’ll be planting these?? That would be a NO.
Also, I thought I’d share this little seed watering tip that works really well for me.
I upcycled a V8 juice bottle and drilled a few holes into the lid. This may be TMI, but it was the spicy V8 and I added it to my beer. YUM!!! I don’t know what the proper name for the drink is, but it’s spicy and delicious and I’ve always just called it red beer. Okay, back to the point. The bottle makes it really easy to water the seedlings, as you have more control on how much water comes out.
Alrighty, that’s all for now. I’ve got a todo list a mile long!
Until next time,
Peace & Plant Flowers
